Causes that Affect
Today’s reading in “A COURSE IN MIRACLES”, on a simple topic, “Anger, Attack and Fear”.
The relationship of anger to attack is obvious, but the inevitable association of anger and fear is not always so clear. Anger always involves projection of separation, which must ultimately be acceptd as entirely one’s own responsibility. Anger cannot occur unless you believe that you have been attacked, that your attack was justified, and that you are not in no way responsible. Given these three wholly irrational premises, the equally irrational conclusion that a brother or sister is worthy of attack rather than love follows. What can be expected from insane premises except an insane conclusion.
I (Christ) do not call for martyrs but for teachers. No one is punished for sins, and the Sons of God are not sinners. [1John 3:9 — Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.] Chew on that a moment, I’ll wait.
Any concept of “punishment” involves the projection of blame and reinforces the idea that blame is justified. Tsk tsk tsk. [Phil 2:12 (b) — 2:15 — work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;] The behavior that results is a lesson in blame, just as all behavior teaches the beliefs which motivate it.
Casting blame is not something that God needs to do; however, it might be something we don’t recognize right off. Blame like all other emotions are egos of the self-righteous; sometimes known as — burdens. Standing in guilt and shame and even blame is condemning warranting a punishment of some kind. God’s love for us protects us from God’s wrath. For this, we must become grateful and aware that God only has love for us. Therefore we should lay these burdens down. Surely, humans were not meant to carry such weight (Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,…).
So what does God need? Perhaps our appreciation? Think about that. Would a self-creating, self-sufficient God need external validation. Our appreciation is something that God doesn’t need. Think about it for a moment. What could we possibly have that God would need? (One suggestion is our servitude. I have thought about this and realize that its not servitude that is the answer, but our love. The very love that formed us, shapes us, extended to us, works in us is to flow right back to God because God is love and the source of love. Perfect love yields itself to obedience and servitude.)
God doesn’t needs anything, we do. Being full of ego produces (creates) ungrateful and unappreciative blocks the flow of love from us and toward us. Ego-beings thrive in blame, guilt, shame and ventication. Stoking the fires of fear with anger, love is stiffled and I’m justified to treat you shabbily, even attacking you outright because of my lack of appreciation you as the image that God created. We cannot love what we do not appreciate, and fear makes appreciation impossible. Whenever we are afraid of what we are, we do not appreciate it and will therefore reject it. As a result we will teach rejection.
Consider, the power of the sons of God is operation all the time because they were created as creators. Their influence on each other is without limit and must be used for their join salvation. [Eph. 4:8–13 — But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:]
Each one must teach one of their Sonship, teach one another to love fearlessly, learn to teach that all form of rejection are utterly meaningless. The separation is the notion of rejection. Separation implicitly suggests banishment, turning away, disapproval, forsaking, and abandonment. Do these qualities sound like a loving God? So, as long as any of us teach rejection, we will still believe in it. This is not as God thinks, and we must begin to think as He thinks in order to follow Christ’s request, Matt. 22:29… Take my yoke upon you, and LEARN OF ME; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. This is further expressed in 2 Peter 3:18, But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
Now lets look at Anger and Attack in this light. Luke 10:19 reminds us, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Nothing is either good or bad but thinking makes it so. — Shakespeare, Hamlet, Act 2, Scene 2. All of our emotions and the corresponding actions are generated in our minds.
My anger yields my attack basically. However, in God’s light of who you and I really are, my attacking you, I am trying to attack God (whose image and likeness you were created). Such folly (ego driven thought and actions) is too humors to me, that at one time, I believed I could have an affect on another that did not generate in love. Now the above verse from Lukes, reminds us of the following, 1) If perfect love casts out fear, and if fear exists, then there is not perfect love. BUT, only perfect love really exists. If there is fear, it creates a state which does not exist. 2) The Soul is in a state of grace forever. Man’s reality is only his Soul. Therefore, man is in a state of grace forever. 3) Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Selah
I know this is a bitter pill to swallow when our emotions rise up and demand an eye for an eye. But vengence is mine saith the Lord. Can assault be made on the body? Of course. Now I ask you this, are YOU your body? The YOU, you, lives in the body. You are not your body. Therefore, while the material can decompose, the spiritual YOU can never be destroyed. You ask, “why not?”. Because You and Your Father are ONE.
That which is born of SPIRIT, is spirit. Did or did not God’s spirit create you? Did or did not God’s Holy Spirit quicken you? Is God or isn’t God, spirit? I rest my case. All things belonging to the Father, return to Him. Even us.
So the next time pesky emotions like blame, shame, guilt, or the cry for justice rises up within ask this one simple question, are we watching and responding to life thru the ego or thru the spirit?
